Embedded in everyday life

A LANGUAGE THAT PARENTS DO NOT LIVE WITH CANNOT BE SPOKEN.

  • Talk to your child daily about their everyday life, their experiences in kindergarten and special occasions. Show interest so that they feel valued. In this safe atmosphere, your child will open up linguistically and be able to practice speaking freely!
  • Communicate with your child at home in your first language, even if it is not German. The child will be able to use the structured learning of your language for the acquisition of other foreign languages!
  • Support your child in learning the German language, even if you do not speak it. Have them tell you things or name words, watch German children’s series together and ask about the plot! The same applies to books, pictures, drawings.
  • Be patient and do not use coercion. This could result in the rejection of the second language and a language barrier being built up. On average, it takes three years to build up a good vocabulary.
  • If you have the opportunity, visit your German-speaking family during the holidays, let your child participate in a summer camp or language course in Germany. For language acquisition, it is important that the language does not „rest“ for too long, but remains as active as possible!
