Mixed-Language IB Diploma
The International Baccalaureate Diploma qualification provides young people with a globally recognized university entrance qualification. The IB curriculum is designed to prepare students very well for university studies. DISS offers with the mixed-language IB (GIB) all the prerequisites for the recognition of the IB Diploma at German universities. The subjects from the 6 subject groups are partially taught in German.
The curriculum of the IB Diploma Programme consists of the following areas:
1. Six main subject groups, within which various subjects are available:
- Language and Literature
- Language Acquisition
- Individuals and Societies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- The Arts
2. Core of the Programme:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK): Students learn to adopt an independent and critical way of thinking.
- The Extended Essay (EE) is an independent, self-directed research paper where young people learn the methods of academic work.
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): Here, students become artistically, athletically, and socially active through project work.
Admission Requirements
Students of the German School Sharjah are admitted to the IB Diploma Programme if they:
• have passed the examination for admission to the Gymnasium upper secondary level
• or have completed the 10th grade of Realschule (including examination) with an average of at least 3 in the main subjects.
• This also applies to students coming from a school in Germany or a recognized German school abroad.
• Students coming from other schools in other countries must demonstrate sufficient language proficiency in German and English.
A language level of C1 must be proven (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
