School Partnerships

School Partnerships Rwanda – In cooperation with Kinder Brauchen Frieden e.V. Kinder brauchen Frieden e. V. is a non-profit association that has been supporting children in need worldwide since 1992. The focus is on sustainable aid in crisis regions and long-term projects such as school construction, medical care or emergency aid. For more information about the association, please visit https://www.kinder-brauchen-frieden.de In November 2023, our IB students travelled to Kigali, Rwanda for the first time as part of a CAS project and in cooperation with the associations Kinder brauchen Frieden e.V. and Sinapisi NGO. There, they had the opportunity to volunteer in the construction of a school wall at St. Jacob Primary School and in teaching. DS Izmir Cooperation between schools is an excellent opportunity to enable cultural exchange and promote mutual understanding. Such a cooperation was started during Didacta 2023 between theGerman International School Sharjah (DISS) and the German School Izmir in Turkey (DS Izmir). It started with a student exchange of grades 10 -12 in October 2023. The students of the DISS were accompanied by Mr. Dilek, theDeputy Headmaster, and Ms. Rüffer, the IB coordinator, while they visited their partner school in Izmir. They were warmly welcomed by theirhost families and integrated into everyday school life. The project week on the topic of „100 Years of Turkey“, which was carried out during this weekwas particularly impressive. In addition, the students undertook exciting excursions, including a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ephesus. During this time, the students forged close connections with each other and were already looking forward to the following meeting. At the end of January 2024, a significant event took place: Ten exchange students from DS Izmir, accompanied by the IB coordinator Ms. Ünal and another teacher, Ms. Aygün, paid a visit to the DISS in Sharjah. The hosts gave theirfriends a warm welcome and made sure they had an unforgettable experience. The students had great shared experiences at various school events such as the Bundesjugendspiele and the hiking day. In addition, they explored the cities of Dubai and Sharjah together and went on an exciting desert safari. There were emotional moods at the airport when saying goodbye. This cooperation between the DISS and the DS Izmir has not only broadened the intellectual horizons of the participating students, but has also led to the creation of lasting friendships and a deep connection between the educational institutions.

School Library

School Library Of all the worlds that man has created, that of books is the most powerful.Heinrich Heine Our school library is designed as a multifunctional space, accommodating both teaching and learning, as well as communication and relaxation. It offers many different types of media in various languages: books, comics/mangas, magazines and non-books (e.g. audio books, films). In addition, our library has the possibility of using PCs. This is the only way it can impart reading, media and information skills. There is something for every age group. Pre-schoolers and students up to the age of 18 can browse and find what they are looking for in the library. In primary school, the school library is the place for initial reading experiences, it awakens the joy of reading and imparts initial library and media skills and the basics of research. The school library is integrated into our timetable so that lessons can take place in the library. In higher grades, our school library serves not only to motivate reading but also for information retrieval, independent learning, and the acquisition of media and information literacy skills. During breaks, it serves as a retreat for reading and relaxation, as a meeting place for students to exchange news and information, to play variousboard games and to research assigned school tasks. It is open daily from 7.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. „The school library provides information and ideas that are fundamental to successful work in today’s information- and knowledge-based society. The school library teaches students the ability to learn for life, develops theimagination and thus enables them to live as responsible citizens.“(from: Teaching and Learning with the School Library. Alumni

Alumni Christian Rüffer IB graduate of the German International School Sharjah, class of 2021/22. After graduating, I was accepted into my dream university, theTechnical University of Munich (TUM), in Germany, where I am now studying Mechanical Engineering. I took many fond memories with me from school. Although we were a small class at DISS, we had a lot of fun and felt completely at ease with the teachers. I already miss the good old days and wish only the best to future IB students and, of course, my former teachers! Lia Söll My name is Lia Söll, and I graduated from the German International School Sharjah in June 2019. After graduating, I decided to take agap year and completed a six-month internship at the Ajman Hotel as a receptionist and telephone operator. Coinciding with the outbreak of the pandemic, I managed to get accepted for studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Currently, I am finishing the last few weeks of my literature studies and am also trying to secure an internship in publishing. DISS focused heavily on the individual abilities of each student and, with a friendly and personal approach, helped students like me recognize my strengths. In particular, the promotion of German and English in presentations and academic essays proved very useful in my time after graduation. Sara Reisyan Hello,my name is Sara Reisyan.I completed my IB diploma at DISS in the summer of 2019. After successfully having my IB grades converted in Germany, Iapplied directly to universities for study places. I then decided to study teaching at RWTH Aachen University, specializing in Mathematics and English for secondary schools (Gymnasien and Gesamtschulen). Although my time at DISS was almost four years ago, I fondly remember the familial atmosphere at the school. Especially the small class sizes seem like a dream to me now, sitting in a lecture with 200 people.

In the 2025/26 school year, Hamza, Abdulmalik, and Mikael from the GIB have taken on these tasks.

Parents‘ Association

Parents‘ Association Yasmine Ghoneim (vice representative) and Rasha Amer (head representative) Hello, I’m Rasha Amer, the head of parents representatives. I have two kids, my daughter joined the school in 2017 and my son joined in 2019. It was always my pleasure to volunteer being our class parents representative. I believe that being involved in the school community and offering some time, greatly benefits the students, parents and teachers. I was delighted to be elected as the head of parents representative and voluntarily work side by side with the school and parents. Having a small school community is such a blessing and advantage. The easy Communication and “the open door” policy lead to a very healthy environment where your voice is always heard and our opinions really matters, whether it’s big or small. One of the main roles as a head of parents representative is transmission of information and being the link between the parents and the school management. But most importantly being involved in organizing events and projects for our school community, which is a rewarding and challenging experience. Finally, it’s worth mentioning that all the school efforts by offering the opportunity for parents to get involved and create a solid family-school community makes the parents feel more confident with the school. This is affecting our children in a great way behaviorally and academically. I’m glad to have such an experience and always willing to support our school.
